Leah Moen - Owner/Director

Owner and Director Leah Moen has been dancing since she was 2 years old and hasn't stopped yet.

She moved with her family to the Lower Mainland when she was 4 and was competing on stages as a soloist at the age of 5. Her love of dance kept her competing for over 10 years. During that time Leah and her various groups won numerous awards and outstanding achievement medals. She now enjoys passing her passion for the art onto her students and seeing them excel.

Leah spent 12 Years teaching dance in Fort McMurray, Alberta at Generation Dance Studio as well as Keyano College Conservatory, Norfort Gymnastics Cub and Noralta Figure skating Club before moving to the Okanagan July 2011.

A jack of all trades , it is not unlikely to see Leah finish teaching a 6 year old Ballet class then transform into a funky urban teen Hip Hop teacher. Having dedicated her life to training all various styles of dance and yoga she is very knowledgeable not only on the steps themselves but the history, and even the correct muscles used to properly execute the move.  Her versatility enables her to teach all ages and skill levels.

She has trained and participated in conventions all over North America, in places including Los Angeles, New York, Denver, Las Vegas and Scottsdale in the USA and all over Alberta and BC in Canada.

Leah's love of training and understanding dance has taken her into the classes of famous choreographers including Blake McGrath, Kelly Kono, Eddie Garcia, Mia Michaels, Wade Robson, Shane Sparks, Twitch and many many more.

Leah also has a love for fitness and the overall well being of others.  She incorporates fitness, strength training and yoga into almost every class she teaches, believing that strength and flexibility will allow the dance to progress at their fastest possible rate and allow them to continue dancing forever.

A mother of 4, Leah knows kids.  She finds a way to connect with every child she teaches and makes sure each student grows to their full potential every year they dance.  Each year Leah volunteers the little extra time she has into giving back to the kids in the community as much as possible.  She teaches Hip Hop in the elementary schools and volunteers for such local events as, Oliver's Got Talent at the Roots and Fruits Festival, Festival of the Grape, Canada Day Breakfast, Oliver Ambassador Program, Christmas Light-up and Community Christmas Concert.

Leah truly believes that we should all "Dance for Fitness, Dance for Fun, Dance Forever"

Karmyn Mainland

For over 6 years Karmyn has been teaching and dancing at TDS here in Oliver and we are so lucky to have her.  She started dancing at 6 years old in Winnipeg, and dance has been part of her life ever since, but it wasn't until I found TDS that I truly found the dance family and the joy of sharing dance to others.  She is an extremely talented individual that teaches the beautiful art of tap dancing to children and adults of all ages. She is passionate about the art of tap dance and provides her students with not only structured technique but also the freedom to explore the beautiful rhythms they can create with their feet.

Karmyn just recently graduated from College as a Therapist Assistant.  With her studies in assisting physio, occupational and recreational therapists, she continues to help educate others on the importance of dance, and how dance can have such a profoundly positive influence on every ones life.

Maurie Pitura

Maurie has had the love of performing in her since day one! This quickly and easily translated into a love of dance, with a passion for musical theatre.  Starting at age 2, Maurie has training in Jazz, Musical Theatre, Modern, Hip Hop, Ballet, Acting, Voice, Singing and Lyrical.  She's even taken a tap class here and there.

Maurie has had the pleasure of dancing with Miss Leah for over 12 years now, first as her student and now as the Performance Squad Assistant Director and as an Instructor for Musical Theatre, Jazz, Modern, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Acro and more.

As a young competitive dancer Maurie won awards in Lyrical, Modern and Musical Theater.  Her Modern Solo "Sun Screen" won a 1st at CanDance in 2010.  In 2011 her Musical Theater "On My Own" won 1st at multiple competitions and an Honorable Mention from adjudicator J.T Horentien.  The same year her Lyrical Solo won the overall high score award aboard a cruise at Celebrity Dance Competitions.

Her theatre background is just as amazing.  In grade 9 she had a staring role in the highschool musical CATS where she played Jemina.  in 2010 she stared as Mary Girard in "The Insanity of Mary Girard" and won Best Actress at the Alberta One Acts Festival.

Kristina Marie Richards Decker

(Junior Teacher)

Kristina "Krisi" started taking gymnastics and tumbling as soon as she could walk and dance classes started at 3 years old.  Over the last 12 years she has taken classes in Jazz, Tap, Ballet, Hip Hop, Lyrical, Modern, Contemporary, Acro and Musical Theatre. She has even recently started taking couples training in Salsa ad West Coast Swing.  She loves to take classes and learn new techniques.

Of her 12 years dancing Krisi has been competing for 9 of them.  She believes this helps push her to reach her personal best such as a 3rd Place at Showtime Finals in 2011, TDS Musical Theatre Award in 2013, TDS Dancer of the Year in 2016, a Choreography Award from Great Canadian Dance Challenge in 2018 and is currently the TDS 2018 Dancer of the Year.

Kristina likes to teach kids dance because she finds joy in showing them what she knows and that stretching and moving the body is not only super healthy but fun and expressive too.  She especially loves teaching students as they get older and grow. She says "It's such a joy watching them transform throughout their young life and their journey through dance. Every kid is so different, its a fun challenge to teach them all."
Krisi enjoys spending most of her time at home (the studio), she says she's there more than her house during school time. She has a strong passion for music and spends most of her free time with her headphones on just creating more routines or just enjoying the freedom music and movement can bring. In addition to dancing, Krisi absolutely loves all things CATS and Slurpees all year long.
